Hi Dennis. I am still on my original starter. What is your preferences for a replacement? 1985 automatic with a 2.1 Boston Bob.

Thanks Jeff

The compression-de-compression is the real work for a starter along with friction and lubricant drag. The Bosch rebuilds are notorious for not being able to reliably crank over the engine. You need to test voltage and current looking for voltage drops and battery capacity. This is the main reason folks look for starter alternatives. For econo rebuilds NAPA and AutoZone have been much better than the Bosch although automatic starters are harder to obtain. You also want to make sure the pinion bushing is in good condition, (manual trans). > > Dennis > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> On Behalf Of thewestyman > Sent: Friday, May 25, 2018 11:01 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Starting question > > Hello to all, > > This is interesting to me. > I can make the engine turn over fast without the spark plugs. > But it barely turns over with them in, and I disconnected the fuel injectors at the coil. > > Now, I’m not sure what is the reason.
