When it comes to diagnostics a better approach is to actually look for the fault(s) before corrective actions are taken. A helper can be very handy. So while cranking what is the voltage at the battery, the starter, voltage drop across the battery to starter cable, and the ground strap. Find the drop, than you know if you really found and fixed the problem. If the drop is the battery, than you need to know the starter current draw. A clamp on current ammeter is the tool for that. If you pulling 300+ amps and the starter is laboring that is most likely the problem.
