Popping in with my experience which is similar. I used the PDFE tape <https://www.woodcraft.com/products/slick-strips-3-4-width-1-32-thick?gclid=CjwKCAjwr-PYBRB8EiwALtjbzwS3Y6_Q4ltpYcH3pGg6Y9UDTVP1TAMQ78oRNZugj6BaP1YJBKWwiBoCYCoQAvD_BwE> on both areas for the door on an '84. Also did and RnR on all door parts. Worked AMAZING for about 2-3 months. But, as noted the weight is too much and it starts to wear the tape unevenly so it wrinkles at the edges. The ripples then start to make more noise than before the tape.

I came to the conclusion that a sanded and well painted track on both the rear and the bottom is the best course of action. The bottom track seems to make the most difference as it bears the most weight. I sanded till smooth as butter and then laid down multiple coats of black spray paint. Worked great. Another trick is to clean that little recess often towards the front of the van where dirt and grime get caught. It wears the roller and paint grinding it down when dirt gets caught in it.

The rear roller seemed to have the best effort in cleaning the bearings and being sure they roll without effort. I also sanded and painted the guide and it helped quite well. Also put a bit of sound dampener on the back side of the piece that covers the section.

NOW, a great place I have found for the tape is the Westie drawer (its intended purpose) little bit on both sides of the channel and the drawer opens nice and smooth.

If anyone has seen other applications would love to hear them! Ryan in Asheville, NC
