Good news.
A friend has recently worked with a bearing manufacturer on a new design and has commissioned them to produce urethane versions of the FOUR bearings previously only available in steel. The result is than now all SIX of the rolling elements in a Vanagon sliding door can soon be replaced with a set made up of Delrin and Urethane, eliminating all metal-to-metal contact in the rollers.
A few of the first batch were sold at SyncroFest. It's amazing how quiet and smooth the slider can be with these replacements, plus some clean-up work.
Look for announcements here or on TheSamba within a month or so about their general availability.
