Hey Patrick,
I too replaced the screen material many years ago. The no see ums up here in bc would easily get thru the stock netting. I used a very fine screen material.
And, the part which folk complain about screeching on the glass, the rear part of the screen frame, well the gaps there allows the bugs to enter.
So I glued a strip of polyester fleece material along, inside, that edge. It stops both the bugs and the screeching .
