Hi all,

This was a great discussion.

I actually called GW to order the kit but they didn’t answer the phone and by the time they called back it was a couple days later. I was busy dealing with my sliding door.

I think I’ve decided to keep using the frig for another season and hold off on changing things just yet. there are other things I need to get done on the van first.

And, well, the darn little device just works, It actually lights easily and gets the full 40 degrees colder then outside timp. so for much of the time it serves well.

Still I suspect once it stops being so darn well behaved I’ll put it into storage and add some cabinet space and use a good cooler.

I tend to keep everything I take off the van whenever possible in case i ever want to go back.

Eric

I bought my '85 Westfalia new, and can tell you that the refrigerator never impressed. It made ice in the winter, but in the summer that little ice tray was just a source of spilled water. But, after 33 years, it still works. I had to clean rust out of the combustion chamber once. It can be a pain to start it on gas if it's not preheated. But what other refrigerator fits in that space that can run on 120 V, 12 V, and gas?

We used an ice chest for a while when the combustion chamber wouldn't light, but it gets old stopping to buy bags of ice after your food ends up floating in a pool of questionable water from the last bag of ice. Or you can buy a portable refrigerator. If you don't mind the sound of a compressor running all night. Of course, you'll need to install a house battery. And if you stay in place for a couple of days, you'll want a solar panel to charge the battery. I think I'll tough it out drinking cool beer instead of cold beer.
