If you are traveling and the problem is that the CV joint is starved for grease, the solution has been mentioned already by David B. Here's how to do it. Go to a parts store and ask for a needle with a zerk-type head that snaps into a standard grease gun. If you don't have a shop to take it to, buy a large or small grease gun as well. Attach the needle and poke it through the rubber of the boot. It helps if you have done the job before out of the car so you know where to aim the tip. about twelve shots should do it.

I travel with one of those needles.
