Last January, I put out a request on both the Vanagon and Diesel Vanagon lists for a front table leg, old style. I had a few false starts at acquiring one (most usual problem being that most people including me didn't know the exact dimensions we were looking for). But it didn't take long for Vanagon owner Mark Pinnell to reply that he had one, but it was in Canada and the shipping would likely be onerous.

Turns out Mark had the correct leg for me, but it was the wrong leg for him. He needed a late model leg, which I had already swapped for, but again there was the shipping for both in and out of Canada.

I asked him where the item was located, and Mark said it was at his son's near the airport in Toronto. I said "great," I have some friends going to a trade show in Toronto from here in February, is there any chance they could get together and swap table legs? Longish story shorter, I got my table leg to my friends in north Alabama who drove to the show. Mark's son was kind enough to meet one of them in the parking lot and they made the swap. Deal done, no shipping, I've got the leg I need and Mark has his.

Thanks, Mark and son, for this international event!

Jim
