The exhaust is your biggest gain...Get a better set up there and you will be amazed. I have the same cam in my ABA, with an 8 valve head, but when I got a custom exhaust and a dual primary manifold, it made a LOT better power. I remember Teutonic Tuning suggested ~30" for the dual primary tubes before we merged them, a number that they arrived at thru lots of dunk testing for their own jetta headers... I'm keeping my digifant, it's simple and native to both the 84 vanagon and the vw inlines. Parts and information are common for the digifant, too. I have run a stand alone after market ems on another car, and it can be rather tedious to sort out. We spent a lot of time and money on mine, and it was always "inviting" further tweaking and messing around ...meaning having a bunch of cables, laptops, screens and a dyno around in working order to utilize the program, plus learning how to integrate all the possible adjustments and sensors. I'd suggest the exhaust fabrication first. BTW, I've had my latest mounting system in place for appx. 50k miles of rough road driving with no problems...Mount the exhaust system only to the motor...

I will be looking at Megasquirt options in the near future. Digifant II on my ABA conversion is reliable, but I am looking to get more power for my Syncro Westy without going all out on a 1.8T.

So far I am pleased with the Techtonics cam, chip, and adjustable cam gear. I will be installing an AEG exhaust header for more flow over the toilet bowl setup this summer.
