Dan, Before throwing parts at problems, I usually check to see what other things the suspected part may control. If those items work, I move onto other diagnosis. One great practice is to check and clean all your ground straps and body connection points. I've chased many problems and replaced many parts without fixing the issue, and have learned over time to try to isolate things. With my 84 Westy, which I've owned since 87, I've had to run new wires from back to front on a number of occasions. Keep in mind, sensors are very sensitive and any drop in current can result in weak or bad signals. A simple nick in a wire, can allow water to penetrate, leading to corrosion and resistance. You can use an ohm meter to check the wire's resistance. That's where I would start.
