I was considering this. Instead, I ended up overhauling my existing brakes. I.e., new calipers, pads, wheel cylinders, shoes, brake hoses. Master cylinder is fairly new so it stayed. (I also replaced all the hydraulic lines, but that was not to improve performance.) I made sure the rear brakes were very carefully adjusted. The result was night and day from anything I had ever experienced in a vanagon before. So, it's possible that just getting your existing brakes into brand new off-the-lot condition would make a big difference. I suspect that at least some of the benefit people report from the upgrade kits is simply due to the fact that they are replacing old components with new ones. Given the improvement I got, I'm glad I went this route. I was always a little reluctant to install an aftermarket brake system.
