I too replaced my PS Rack on my 84 Westy about 7 years ago, then in the summer of 2017, a leak started up, leaving a puddle of about 3 inches in size overnight.




I topped off the PS fluid with Lucas PS Stop-Leak, and as the summer progressed, the puddle got smaller... refilling each time with Lucas.
I'm pleased to say, there were NO LEAKS at all this past summer!

Wish I had tried that before replacing my original rack.

Well, it's happened again.�  Just like clockwork.�  Another 7 years and
the power steering rack leaks again.�  When I replaced it in 1997 it had
a lifetime warranty but today I am reminded that "lifetime" means the
lifetime of the business that sold it and not the lifetime of Vanagon
ownership.


It's leaking from the two-bolt plate that controls the spring that puts
axial force on the steering pinion shaft.�  Has anyone had any success in
sealing this plate?
