Hi Dave,

Yes, my memory is that I pulled the old one down and put in the new one from underneath. And, lucky me I still have the Gromit!

Thank goodness for the tip about pulling the new cord over with the old one.

Fingers crossed for you for success.

Mine will not go out either hole. I know the hole behind the headlight, which is missing the rubber grommet (anyone know if that's available?), is supposed to be there to accept the antenna tube for when it's collapsed. > Are you saying your antenna came out through the hole behind the headlight? > > Dave B. > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Eric Caron <eric.caron@icloud.com> > To: David Bjorkman <ddbjorkman@VERIZON.NET> > Cc: vanagon <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Sent: Mon, Dec 3, 2018 3:57 pm > Subject: Re: Antenna replacement > > Hi David, > > I have a 85. I think I took off my front grill and maybe the head light and dropped the antenna down and out. I used the tip to cut the cord and I attached the new antenna cord to the old one then from inside the bus I pulled it through to the back of the radio. I then popped the new antenna up and attached. I’m pretty sure this is how I did it on my 85. There were directions on one of the vender sites It was either Vanagain or Van cafe. It was a long time ago now about 2013. > > Actually, it may have been a list member that talked me through it with a detailed email. > So it may be it is supposed to go in from below. > > Eric Caron > 85 GL Auto > > > > On Dec 3, 2018, at 3:11 PM, ddbjorkman@verizon.net <mailto:ddbjorkman@verizon.net> <ddbjorkman@VERIZON.NET <mailto:ddbjorkman@VERIZON.NET>> wrote: > > > > That's what I am hoping for. The antenna will not pull out of the hole it is in. It's loose, will fall into the space below, but won't come out the hole in the body. I am wondering if old body work closed it up. the hole is 1.135" tall by .585" wide, both at largest point. Is this hole too small?? > >> Thanks;Dave B.
