Chris,

You want to get the OEM GKN CV Joints, and repack with Red Line grease! As for boots, the GKN boots are OEM. Stay away from the cheap china CV Axle shafts. BusDepot has a great package deal on the joints/boot kits. http://www.busdepot.com/251598101

RedLine CV-2 Grease.

Clean everything... it is a big and messy job, but done right, they can last 200k miles. I just completed the task on my 84!

First of all, hello again after a long pause. Now… onto interesting stuff.

I have a curious cank-cank-cank noise coming from right rear as I take right turns and weight shifts off the right axle. It’s gotten louder over time and It sounds like a bad CV joint, so I presume that’s it..

What are our CV joint/axle options these days? I see 944 joints listed for greater articulation ( I have a Syncro), but 944 folks are running Vanagon axles/joints in their race cars. I see very expensive 930 joints which, like any other off-road accessory, come with extensive list of benefits rivaling viagra. Then I see roll-the-dice discount joints.

My Syncro is mildly lifted with super Schwenk springs.
