Ben, this is what Steve said. Notice that he said that "... most vanagon gas caps are not designed to use the main key.... ." That is why I responded as I did. the sentence is pretty clear. You can read it for yourself.

There are 4 depths of cut, therefor 4 different wafers. The ignition may or may not use the same wafers as the door, depending on if the lock is original or not. I generally scrounge through old wafers for gas caps, since I seldom rekey them. I'd just leave out any that you can't shuffle. Note that most vanagon gas caps are not designed to use the main key, but the lock is so sloppy they can be made to work. I do have a limited supply of new wafers.
