The deisel vanagon is dangerously slow. My experience was a short ride-20-30 miles only... but during that ride in the southern CA mtns, we were flipped-off repeatedly and had stuff thrown at us, and passed with ridiculous frequency on blind corners. My 50 yr old wife passed us on a 5% uphill, on her bicycle. Other drivers were convinced that we were purposely blocking them. This was in a well maintained deisel Westie with 4 adults aboard.

You can swap in a gas VW motor cheaply and exceed the performance and economy of a regular Wbx powered van...The 5sp transmission is very good.
