The table could indeed be lighter. It is made of masonite, or similar material, so lots of glue in that sawdust. Plywood would be lighter, not much. Furniture grade birch would be much lighter. Both would be more expensive than the masonite type material, but would not be beyond reason.

I've never used the front table. It was missing when I bought the van, but I thought it was important for some reason, so bought one new from GoWesty. Found it to be just something in the way. Never trusted storing it behind the seat, considering what might happen in a rollover. I do use the rear table for food preparation and eating. I also have a light weight fold up table to use outside the van, stores in a nylon bag. I guess the second table would be useful if one had more than two people for a meal, but boy, the van would be crowded with four for sure. It and its leg are in my shop, where they have been for years.
