Hello List...... I have retired and plan to buy what will be my fourth Vanagon to use for retirement traveling, as well as for a utility vehicle. With the later requirement in mind, I would like a tintop Syncro, not a Westy, and a diesel. Momma is a teacher and won't retire until the next school year is over, so I have a year to find a vehicle and get it roadworthy and livable. So I would like the List's opinion/knowledge on a couple of simple things. First, I am seeking a diesel, based on my humble estimation that there is a slight edge in reliability with diesel. Some of you may question this estimation, and that is why I am asking for opinions. Another reason to source a diesel is that I plan to own land in retirement that can be used to grow biodiesel feedstock, thereby giving me an alternative source of fuel. And I am prepared to upgrade a 1.6L diesel to a 1.9 TDI, so I can travel at normal North American highway speeds. Implicit in sourcing a tintop Syncro diesel is availability. I have been hawking the Euro car lists since I know the Syncro diesels were sold there, and with both front and rear locking diffs. But does anyone know if Syncro diesels were sold in Canada? That's all for now. Thank you for your input! Anthony in NE FL |
