Hi folks, It was probably a month ago that we replaced the power steering rack on my 85 Vanagon. I wanted to report back that all is going well. No leaks, very quiet, and the service from Ken at Vanagain was great. Some notes. I ordered a few other things and the crush washers that were sent as part of the steering rack ended up with my transmission seal and such. This caused us to loose time seeking them out when they were there all along. So check the packages carefully! One of the reasons I went with Kens offering is that it was a complete replacement. I had a limited time to have a friend work with me on the project so I had to have all things ready. This worked out well. I was interested in sourcing the high end parts but it involved getting them from several sources all with several delivery times and the chance of not having parts I would need. Anyway. I appreciate the great information I received here and I made my choice based on my situation. So far I’m hopeful I got a good one. The alignment went well though they took a long time to do it. They were very patient with the van and said they needed time to get it right. They also complimented me on the van saying it was in great shape, especially underneath, and they felt like they had gone back in time seeing it in like new condition. I will go back to that shop again for sure! The bus is driving nicely and straight again. Eric Caron 85 GL Auto |
