Darn, Jim beat me to it! This is how a blind Westy owner does it! I go around the van and put my ear to the vent. If you hear the sound of the ocean in a sea shell go try again. If you hear a intermittent rumble you ar all set.

I know of people that have changed the LED and now it is very bright ,so fixing it for sighted folks is the way to go but my method work, and I get a little more exercise going around the van until lit.
