Thanks for the info Dennis I have oil coolers on both of my vans. One is from Vanaistan and the other I put together from junkyard parts. They do make a difference. If and when I rebuild that VW reman I would probably go with Go Westy parts. I wish I could go with a 2.3 and run it safely on regular gas. I have run the 2.3 I have on regular occasionally but usually stick with mid grade. Never heard of those rings. Do they make a big difference and how do they holdup in long run?

Bob

If going for the P+C set avoid the QSC. While the price is appealing the deck height is wrong, lower compression and the rings are terrible. I just did one with the GW set. So far first rate fit. This engine was also fitted with one of my oil coolers. With radiator fan disable I brought the coolant to 210F and waited for the oil temp to get there also. Oil pressure still near 20 psi at idle. Fan working oil temp drops to 190, driving van 180F. > > If you really want to go special consider total seal 2nd piston ring. > > Dennis > > > From: mccullough bob <mbob1950@gmail.com> > Sent: Saturday, April 6, 2019 10:19 PM > To: Dennis Haynes <d23haynes57@HOTMAIL.COM> > Cc: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: 2000 rpm buzzer of oil pressure Here is the link for that "New Engine" > > Ive got a engine with the yellow EX sticker that was given to me as a high milage runner out of a Syncro. I probably going to rebuild it to a 2.2 and add some AMC heads. > > Bob > > http://idiopath2018.wordpress.com <https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fidiopath2018.wordpress.com&data=02%7C01%7C%7C6bd350494ce14f17073608d6baff6392%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636902003375437349&sdata=yDrKCNO%2FiMecDrood3mOQv2Iiip0%2FPSAiuBIEFKfCMY%3D&reserved=0> > > > > > > > > On 6, Apr2019, at 1:14 AM, Dennis Haynes <d23haynes57@HOTMAIL.COM <mailto:d23haynes57@HOTMAIL.COM>> wrote: > > https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2260173 <https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thesamba.com%2Fvw%2Fclassifieds%2Fdetail.php%3Fid%3D2260173&data=02%7C01%7C%7C6bd350494ce14f17073608d6baff6392%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636902003375447354&sdata=oYcpmENXpP5VDEOzkqB6o%2F49nbOlp%2FsgivkPNIoZ9WU%3D&reserved=0> > > I have to wonder if it is really new. The correct high speed-pressure oil pressure switch should close at ~.9 bar, 12.7 psi.
