Thanks Alistair. POI, my 87 speedo cable goes to the left (drivers side) wheel. On top of that, I have the alloy wheels with the (almost, if one wants to put them back on) unremovable hubs. I will have to pull the wheel off. Thanks to all for info. I checked my cable alignment and connection to the speedo.

Hi,
Right off the bat, I’d check the cable at the hub, pass side. See if the square end of cable has lost its little c clip, and it’s not in the square hole on hub grease cap.
Second, reach behind the speedo unit, dash cover and plastic shield off, and make sure that end of the cable is secure in the speedo.
Those are the two easiest checks, and hopefully solutions :-)

Baked again in Mesa AZ and Bluff, UT. Cooled off at Grand Canyon North Rim. and back to the furnace in Zion. Pine Lake Campground above Bryce Canyon @ 8000 ft. was nice and we needed the small A/C we brought along in Moab. We knew it would be hot there so went for the KOA to get the shore power. We are now at Granby, close to Winter Park, checking out the Rockies and have internet service at the timeshare exchange. The Grand Circle completed, we have a few weeks to get home. The Black Hills are on the agenda as well as the swing around the Great Lakes on the way home. The bus (87 Westy w/ FAS inline) has been doing well. Had to replace the muffler flex pipe in Dillon, OH, and other than a few little "quirks" (like cutting in and out after 6 to 8 hour drives) all has been well. Been on a lot of dirt, sometimes rough, roads to get to the really interesting places (Mogi Dugway, Zapata Falls, etc.). Really glad I got suspension upgrades (including new spring perches) from Dennis Haynes before trip, the old suspension would never have made it. Problem now is a shaky speedo needle. Any easy checks to see if it is one of the cables or the speedo? I brought tools, lube spray and spare bits, but no electric drill. Any thoughts would be helpful. Couple more days and then no internet again, so probably not able to tell you how it went till much later.
