Apparently I need to rejoin Face Book. LOL.

I'd suggest that owners see them as more of a "classic" bus than the water cooled Vanagons. Or, owners tend to drive the water cooled Vanagons harder because they see them as more reliable. i.e. the engine can take more of a beating.

That's a lot of air cooled Vanagons for sale. From the perspective of possible getting one for a good price......

If the body and interior were in excellent condition, for the right price, I'd convert another air cooled to water cooled and update to the WBX transaxle in the process.
