Goodness. I just use a bow saw and an ax. No need for a maul, because I only burn small wood for camping. If nearby and in a developed campground, I just take some from my home heating supply. After all, I'm not trying to heat all the outdoors, just have a small campfire for atmosphere, and to make coals for cooking a steak or baking something in the dutch oven. Doesn't take a lot of wood.

Haven't tried one of the hefty battery operated saws. Given the rate of battery usage for other heavy duty tools like lawn mowers, I wouldn't want to cut my home heating wood with one, but if I only used wood for a fireplace occasionally for atmosphere, i might get one.
