I borrowed this cluster, long term loan as I figure out what to do with my cluster, and it came already with the SA cluster fix. I think it’s at least 5 years installed. And when I mentioned before about not liking the LEDs used, I’m guessing it was done by whoever did the cluster fix before. And they are bright but cold LEDs , soldered to wires. The connection just doesn’t give me the good connection feeling, but it’s not come apart. I bet partially due to it being quite constrained back there in my dash. I have a bus bar attached to the dash supports that run either side of the brake master that takes up space. There is a third option for the dash rewire, I mean apart from dyi. A chap on the 80-90 forum had gone to a lot of trouble to make a very nice kit. But my enquiries back in Jan haven’t been answered and he’s not active in that forum recently. It’s a pity, for it looks like a better set up than the SA and the go westy kits. It should be about .050 thick to match what the connector is expecting. Two or three thicknesses of index card stuck to the back will take care of that nicely (or whatever more elegant shim stock is available -- I did that fix on Jimmy Sheehan's panel in the middle of the night on the table in my van parked in front of someone's house with no tools or materials). > > I mentioned this was a problem to him back then but he wasn't very receptive. It's not just that you have to zip-tie it on so it won't fall off -- it needs that thickness and pressure to make proper contact. > > Yrs, > d |
