This is one of the things I did when I was trying to improve the refrigerator performance. Unfortunately, my refrigerator was too far gone otherwise, and so it was not a good test of whether that works or not. I do not recall details of the fan.

Regarding the comment that anything that improves refrigerator performance would have universally adopted, well, not necessarily. Some are quite happy with the performance of the refrigerator for their purposes, and indeed I was for quite a long while. Then the machine went crappy over a short period of time. It was not cooling on propane, even with a robust flame. But it does strike me that if there were such a simple way to improve the operation, Westfalia should have come up with it, and made it a part of the camper factory install.
