Subject: Evaporative Emission Canister? (re: Fuel Expansion Tank)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed

Does the "Evaporative Emission Canister" need to be replaced periodically? How often?

https://www.vancafe.com/1H0201801C-p/1h0201801c.htm

Van Cafe showed that as a "related product" to the fuel expansion tank we've been discussing. I'm dismayed at how many parts I've never heard of in ten years of owning my '84 Westy.

I had never heard of the fuel expansion tank until a few months ago, when it came up here. Now I want to replace ALL this stuff.

AND the plastic fuel lines from the fuel tank to the firewall: Shall I replace them with good quality continuous rubber fuel lines all the way to the engine compartment?

After having the fuel lines in the engine compartment replaced, I noted a leak where the return line joins the plastic at the firewall. I stopped the leak by tightening the hose clamp, but there are no barbs on the end of the plastic line, so it doesn't feel secure! I've taken to inspecting it frequently, which is inconvenient.

This is all a big blow to my confidence in my Vanagon. I'd really like to get back to not worrying so much!
