No, sorry, let me clarify.

The leak I saw was NOT due to the firewall fitting. That fitting on the pressurized fuel supply line from the fuel pump was long ago replaced with a metal fitting:

GoWesty suggests replacing that plastic fitting with a grommet instead of a metal fitting. I don't know which is better. Here's where they mention it:

Rather, the leak I noted was on the return line, just forward of the firewall grommet, where it joins the plastic line. Here I have bent the rubber line to show the joint that was leaking, which is normally hidden from view:

Both of those lines join the original plastic lines that run forward to the fuel pump and the fuel tank. It's those plastic lines I'm thinking of removing, so the rubber hoses will be continuous from the fuel pump to the firewall fitting (supply side) and from the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel tank (return side).

GoWesty has a "Hard Plastic Fuel Line Replacement Kit":

But that page is confusing. I believe it includes more hard plastic line, together with barbed fittings to make the joint more secure. Why not run one continuous line, as I'm suggesting?
