If there's any doubt about properly doing a DIY rear brake job, it might be worth taking the van to a Vanagon specific shop that really truly knows what they're doing. e.g. they will correctly set the e-brake arm to adjuster bar. That said, they may not want to use customer supplied parts like shoes.

Thanks for all that info Dennis. I know from experience (maybe I'm a slow learner LOL) that it took some time and reading to get to the point that I can do a decent rear brake job.
