Dave:

Years ago, I helped a fellow electrify his bus (a '64 or ’65). In that instance, we had a volunteer industrial motor (30kW if I recall) and a mounting plate was fabricated to affix it to the bell housing. A bank of lead-acid batteries were installed under the rear bench which greatly added to the weight of the vehicle.

The end result was more torque and better acceleration (despite the weight), but a range of no more than 40-50 miles.

These days with better battery technology and brushless motors. you could probably double the range as a do-it-yourself project … but the T3 is a heavy vehicle to push. > On 09-Oct-2019, at 10:20, ddbjorkman@verizon.net <ddbjorkman@VERIZON.NET> wrote: > > Thanks for that one. Being a retired machinist, I can appreciate that slick CNC setup that person has. Very cool. Future electric engines for our rides?? I wonder how much HP/torque a ramped up version of that would produce? > Dave B. > > -----Original Message----- > From: OlRivrRat <OlRivrRat@COMCAST.NET> > To: vanagon <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Sent: Tue, Oct 8, 2019 2:04 pm > Subject: Replace H2O Boxer with E Boxer {:~)) > > Skip to 18:36 if You just want to see it run ~ > > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4im3M9IFcI
