Subject: Brake spindle upgrade, what to expect
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

Hi listers,

One of the upgrades I’m doing to my 85 vanagon is to change the brake spindles to the 86 and later ones and then upgrade using the Go Westies kit.

A friend has donated the brake spindles from his 87 Vanagon, it was a power steering van though he had not used power steering for years.

He took them off the van just before having it toed away. He was surprised I would want them. He said he didn’t know the upgrade was something people were doing.

Anyway, I’m picking them up and he said the knuckles will have the calipers and rotters still attached.

So, has anyone out there done this upgrade? Can you tell me what parts I can take off so that the brake spindles are ready for the next phase?

I would enjoy prepping them but I don’t want to do any harm.

Eric Caron 85 GL Westfalia

Thanks for any tips.
