Bruce: When I acquired both my ’66 Bus and ’74 Thing, they had been sitting for quite some time (read: years). I changed the fuel, oil and belts and drove both home (250km for one, ~800km for the other). Mind-you, old, dried out, gaskets and seals started leaking shortly after these return-to-life voyages. Sitting for a few months should not pose a huge problem … mine all sit for 6-8 months a year over winter. Keeping the battery full is good, but I wouldn’t bother running the engine until you are ready to take it for bodywork.
