I have a tintop, too.  And....a big beach umbrella.  Found in trash can, and repaired appropriately. Works very well!  Can easily move around to follow the sun; or the rain.  And, it sure folds up tidy.  Just another option.  I once tried to make my own awning with some poles and Harbor Freight tarp.  It worked OK; but with wind, super loud flopping.  And, once you are camped, no option for moving it around.  If windy with beach umbrella, takes 5 seconds to undo.  Yes....I definitely prefer the utility of a simple big beach umbrella.  Or...two of them if so needed, depending on your group size.
