Subject: Power steering leak revisited
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

Hi folks,

Your experiences requested.

I posted that there was a significant drip of pink power steering fluid following a start op in significantly cold weather.

I’ve tried to find the source using sighted non mechanical help.

Heidi says the top of the reservoir had gunk on it. Other lines and the pipes seemed clean. I took off the lid and the level is just below max. The lid was firmly on but I was able to get it off by hand. I tend to try not to over tighten things like that cap. I’m wondering if with the cold weather it just was not on tight enough. Would that reservoir build up pressure enough to push out fluid?

I tightened cap and started the van.

OK, I now have lifter chatter but other then that it acted normally. Steering rack quiet again. No dripping other then two tiny drops that might have been left over.

Just wondering if I caused my own problem. It would not be the first time.

Currently no leaks under van at all.
