I've been a bit tired up. This weekend I'll try to put together a quick motor tutorial that explains some of the features of series field wound motors typically used for starters.

A DC motor person that understands how the different designs work would shudder at the thought of powering up a series wound motor without a load.

How come? Starters run free every time the engine starts and overruns the pinion, and all those noisy little appliance motors are series wound
