Just to add an experience to this thread. Several years ago, I mounted a much more expensive TPMS system and nearly identical valve stem sensors. I was another electronic observation point for an important parameter when crossing extensive vistas of hot, deserted desert autobahns. Thinking LA to Corpus Christi here. After an enjoyable After an enjoyable 532 mile run out from Palm Springs during the middle of the day, we stopped for the night - no difficulties reported by the TPMS system. The next morning a cursory inspection showed a flat right rear tire. The only issue I could find was a partially loose TPMS sensor. It had unwound from the stem just far enough for a slow leak. The left rear TPMS sensor was loose but had not backed out enough for pressure loss, but an additional half turn lead to the incontestable sound of air escaping. Both fronts were still tight as I had installed.  I reinflated the right rear, removed all TPMS sensors, packed away the monitor and added valve stem cheap rubber caps. I then proceeded to put on an additional 2720 miles to complete the tour without any mishap. Just FYI Frank Grunthaner

Given how reliable these seem to be, even spinning around on the outside of the wheel, I wonder how long before other sensors could be added wirelessly to a vehicle?

Oil pressure and temperature? Water temperature? Transmission?

Maybe this is already being done...

Roy,         I never checked my tire press by gauge daily. And my van’s a daily driver. The tpms is my lazy way. :-)     Seems to be pretty true , within a pound or two, of my hand gauge reading.         Alistair             > On Feb 14, 2020, at 11:46 AM, Roy Nicholl <RNicholl@nbnet.nb.ca> wrote:     >     > Alistair:     >     > I’ve never had a vehicle with a TPMS system.  Other than the curiosity of watching your tyre pressure and temp in real time … what are the *real* benefits over checking the tyre pressure as part of your daily walk-around and pack-up?     >     >> On 14-Feb-2020, at 12:57, Alistair Bell <albell@SHAW.CA> wrote:     >>     >> I’ve mentioned it here on the list, but now I've posted some pics.     >> https://shufti.blog/2020/02/14/vanagon-cheap-wireless-tire-pressure-monitor/     >>     >> Alistair     >
