Bummer. Those housings are like gold...or hen's teeth. I recommend you have a thorough plan of attack, including contingencies, just in case that housing breaks, before you begin work. Maybe even delay repair of your leak. Your van could be out of commission for quite a while if you get unlucky. A telephone call to Ken at Vanagain might be super helpful; he even had a youtube explaining that he is working on a reproduced 1.9 thermostat housing from one of his suppliers (was still in prototype stage 2 years ago).

I looked at some Youtube videos of the whole process, and there were some that showed the housings disassembled.
