McNeely here, 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Campmobile, original waterboxer, 188k miles.

I have a cheap console that I got from AutoZone for the space between the seats. It works fine, and even has cup holders. However, it is no longer fastened in place. I need to find a way to put bolts through the floor, but that pesky gas tank ............ .

Mine is not the full width of the space, and I don't want it to be. I put atlases and such like between the console and the seats.

Does anyone else use the space inside the passenger front door to store anything? I put a flyswat, the stick I use to push the tent fabric in place before pulling the pop up down tight, and a few other items in there. At someone's recommendation I tried to use the space for an umbrella, but it got stuck and was a pain, so I no longer do that.

I also use the space where the air conditioning lines run to the left of the upper bunk for items that won't damage them. I put a small broom and a fishing rod (broken down) in the space behind the upper bunk. You can't put too much there because the AC needs the breathing room there, but these items don't interfere.

For years I have been intending to improve access to the "closet" by installing a sliding door like recommended by our Montreal friend. I even bought materials, but haven't done the work yet.
