I started a thread a while back about "Big empty space just forward of Passenger Side brake light."  I haven't done anything about it so far, but maybe some of you have, I'll get to it.  But anyway, here is another space I utilize:  Behind the nose of the Vanagon, on the Passenger side.  So, with 5 quick quarter turn screws to remove Upper Grill, I stuff a sturdy plastic bag filled with jumper cables down into that empty pocket, on the Passenger Side adjacent to the front radiator.  This is a slim space, but worthy.  (PS Also down there is a spare Fuel Pump).  I've had my jumper cables in there for years and years, all nicely protected.  I've never needed them, but one time in Las Vegas I was able to help out a stranded car for a jump; they were grateful.  Just passing on an idea.
