Thank you so much everyone. Is it possible to temporarily detach that roller arm and be able to securely shut the door so that I can drive around while waiting for the new parts?

Also, someone said you could remove and install the door without taking the track cover off. I think that would be much harder to do blind. Just get a replacement cover bead and remove it, you don’t need any adhesive on it even though Bentley says you do. https://www.gowesty.com/product/made-in-usa/3350/beading-for-sliding-door-rail-cover?v=#gallery-1 It's not too bad a job, you and a friend can handle it! Relevant Bentley scans attached. Note, do not remove the hinge from the door, it's hard to get things aligned again if you do. It could turn a half hour job into a few hours of fiddling around. If you don't have someone around who can help, I know there are Vanagon folks in Eugene, get this app and find one: "VanAlert." Or join the Vanagon Owners FB group and ask there for help.

I tested a few times open and close... seems fine and then suddenly the sliding door drops on the floor.. the rear hit the floor first and the whole door came off...
