Hi Alistair - Just so you know I am waiting in suspense to hear about the eventual cure - kind of analogous to another much larger issue going on. Like others I am keeping this thread handy in my archives for future use. I have had a coil go on me several times and have had wires disconnect from the back of the alternator twice. and a fuel pump crap out on a a Type II. There have been other more straightforward problems which my simple mind has been able to determine. Hoping this is not a ghost in the machine - but something simple and explanatory - regardless we are all learning. Best of luck - you know this is almost better than Netflix. Bruce
