That is the point of my earlier described test of manually turning the distributor with it raised up a little.

The turning hall feeds pulses to the ECU and the ECU then uses them for 3 other functions which you can verify. If any of the 3 functions are working every 1/4 turn of the distributor then you know the hall is making pulses and the ECU is recognizing them.

No need to pull a plug. Just use the center wire pulled from the distributor cap, with the end of the wire places near metal so a spark can jump from the end to the metal.
