Bill, we actually sell the Redarc and have used them in a Vanagon application. I would recommend the 25 amp version because of the output of the alternator, it really doesn't have enough extra capacity to do more than 22 amps anyway. So you could buy the 40 amp version, but you really wouldn't get any extra benefit out of it with the stock waterboxer alternator. The Redarc is an amazing device. It is smart so it maintains the battery correctly, and will also act as a solar controller, and a battery isolator. All of these in one unit that is very well made in Australia. I highly recommend it if you are going down the Lithium battery path.
