Well, I wrote too soon! P 97.12 and 97.18 in Bentley manual show an "OXS relay" for California only. I couldn't figure its' purpose so searched the samba Bay forum and found this AFC PDF: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/afc_fi_training_troubleshooting_manual/AFC_FI_Training_Troubleshooting_Manual.pdf Between it, and Bentley, I now see that "California Only" have this relay and an O2 sensor. Comments in Full Throttle Switch and Oxygen Sensor sections indicate to me that the OXS relay serves to work in conjunction with the ECU to control the O2 sensor input. As a guess, if you were thinking of doing this, I'd suggest that simply deleting the OXS relay is not a good idea. Neil.
