IMO it is unwise to tear into an AFM unless you know it is not working. Get it out of the van. Study the circuit diagram to find the right pins on the connector. Connect a 9v battery across the ends of the resistance path. Connect a voltmeter from one end of the resistance to the terminal for the sliding contact. Watch the voltage as you SLOWLY move the flap thru its whole motion. The voltage should change smoothly with no drop outs. If there are bad spots in the resistance path, you may be able to move the circuit board slightly to give the slider a fresh path. Good luck.
