Dennis: My leak is not the heater itself. It was the gasket on the valve and the line from the engine compartment.  My question was is there any advantage to flushing the heater while I had things drained and apart or should I just pre-emptively replace it?

That indicates a complete set of other problems. With todays coolant even a marginally maintained system should not be loaded with enough debris to require cleaning or flushing. > > Dennis > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> On Behalf Of Roy Nicholl > Sent: Friday, May 15, 2020 10:49 AM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Leaky rear heater > > Jeff: > > A timely post. The Hyena has just emerged from hybernation {only in Canada do Hyenas Hybernate ;-) } and I also appear to have a leaky rear heater ... though I think mine may be at the valve (or the line from engine compartment coming forward to the valve). > > Has anyone bother trying to flush these heaters ... or once I have things apart, should I skip directly to replacing the core? > > Jeff Palmer wrote on 2020.05.15 11:34: >> Hi everyone.
