Actually, a cm, about the size of a dime, is adequate for house mice, and
probably for _Peromyscus_ (what most people simply call "field mice"), and
voles, also. Irish Spring soap has actually seemingly worked for me, but
who knows? Perhaps the mice have stayed away for other reasons, though
they made a real mess at one time, pre-soap. My experience may be similar
to the old elephants hiding in apple trees joke. Don't ask, it's bad.
