Subject: Alternator vibration -
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"

A little follow up on my query about 2 weeks back about the vibration I noticed on my alternator - so I removed the alternator and found a very broken cradle bracket.

With the alternator out and waiting for parts, I sent the alternator in for inspection and balancing and to be brought back to newish operating condition and I also removed the PS pump and cleaned it up - it required removal so I could install the alternator supporting brackets from GoWesty which I picked up on the weekend. Also cleaned the front of the motor around the filler neck and crank pulley - and inspected the short coolant hose that sits below the alternator and connects the right side cylinder jacket to the water pump. To my surprise (once I cleaned the blackened caked on grime from it), I discovered a silicone hose - red in colour. Can't recall when it was replaced but appeared and felt in good condition - firm but not hard. Thinking I'll swap it out with a couple of other low lying short hoses next time I get the coolant changed - looks like a messy replacement job otherwise.

Thinking about some of the crazy highways I've been with my alternator hanging on by a thread makes me thankful I asked the question about vibration and that there is a knowledgable group of folks who can advise based on their experience and as a result I got some excellent feedback.

Had to order a new cradle bracket before adding all the GW reinforcement support parts to beef up the alternator support and then put everything together along with 2 new belts - the alternator belt looked ready. Also looked at my main intake manifold hoses - the 4 short stubby hoses that connect the intake air distributor and they look ready for replacement too.

We will be road ready in a week or so hopefully.
