Is that the post where I glued a cap to the blower for the green doka?

The washers , those spring type washers that I never can remember the name of, on end of shaft. Holds shaft in location. Shaft runs in aN oilite type bushing , inboard of those washers. The idea of a cap is to keep dust etc from the bushing. Thinking about it now , probably the dust wicks Out whatever oil is in the bushing.

Quite honestly, unless david b pipes in and slaps me down, I don’t think the cap really makes a hell of a diff.

But I would apply some light oil on that shaft and washer arrangement in the hope of refreshing k to a little degree, the oilite tyoe Bronze bushing. Let it sit with oil on it overnight .

Looks like that blower construction provides better protection, but even so, I don’t get the bottle cap. Slide up one photo and that’s what the end of mine is. Looks to me like gluing a bottle cap over the end of the shaft protects two washers and the push-on nut. How does that help with the bearing, or maybe what am I missing? > > From: Alistair Bell > Sent: Sunday, August 2, 2020 7:11 PM > To: Gene P > Cc: vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com > Subject: Re: Heater Blower Bearing > > Hey gene, > > Beer cap on mine > > David B is to blame :-) > > Alistair > > > On Aug 2, 2020, at 6:26 PM, Gene P <olgreywoof@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > Hey folks, > > Just spent awhile in the archives and could not find this. In the discussions of front heater blowers, there have been suggestions about gluing something over the bearing to protect it from the incoming air. With blower all refreshed and reassembled, I am not seeing how or with what that would be done. Are there specific pointers on doing that? > > Thanks, > > gp > >
