The '88 fuel tank might have filter screens but won't have a "factory" pre pump filter. The Bosch pump should have a relatively fine mesh screen inside the pump at inlet. Possible points where debris might enter fuel tank: - failed tank seals - failed seal at expansion tank(s) ID of nipples from the expansion tank might clog before allowing a significant amount of debris to enter the fuel tank. As a mild WAG, water getting in via the expansion tank seals would be the bigger offender. Neil.
